"DUGONG Atenista"

2nd “Dugong Atenista” yields 188 voluntary blood donors

Undaunted by the unfavorable weather, the Ateneans, in their willingness to be part of the Voluntary Blood Donation Program dubbed as “dugong Atenista 2”, found their way to the Ateneo de Naga Xavier Hall last December 2, 2008.
The rain shower may not be abated, but so did the influx of potential donors. By 5 pm, Mr. Rodolfo Virtuz Jr, the Program Officer for Student Development, was thrilled to announce the success of the activity with a whopping 188 blood donors composed of students from different departments, faculty members, administrators, office staff and alumni.

The Ateneans have done it again and even surpassed its July 31 record of 163 blood donors. Atty. Jo Aileen Cabiles, Director of Student Affairs and ADNU Blod Program Coordinator, affirmed that the outcome was more that what they expected. The continues flow of blood donation process, from the registration until donor care, was facilitated well with the help of selected Nursing Students who have undergone seminar and trainings from Bicol Medical Center, Blood Bank and Transfusion Service. The Blood Donation activity of “Dugong
Atenista” is held twice a year—Feasts of St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Francis Xavier. This formation program of the Office of the Student Affairs, on its 2nd year since it adopted the NVBSP of the Department of Health through its Memorandum of Agreement with Bicol Medical Center, has continuously met its goals of instilling altruism, intensifying health education, and providing the members of the university community with ready supply of safe blood.
